How does the Guardian Home Program work?

Under this Guardian Home Agreement, the breeder places a male puppy produced by the breeder into an approved guardian home as a co-owned dog. The guardian home assumes primary responsibility for the dog's daily care and well-being, including housing, feeding, training, exercise, grooming, routine veterinary care, and maintaining the dog in good physical condition as a family companion.

Although the dog resides full-time with the guardian family, the breeder retains exclusive breeding rights and the ability to use the dog as part of the breeder's breeding program. The breeder will provide reasonable advance notice whenever the dog is needed for breeding purposes. In most cases, the dog will be in the breeder's care for approximately one week while breeding arrangements are completed, after which the dog will be promptly returned to the guardian home. The breeder agrees to provide proper care and supervision while the dog is in the breeder's possession.

The breeder is solely responsible for all expenses directly related to the dog's reproductive use, including but not limited to reproductive health testing, semen evaluations, collection and storage fees, breeding-related veterinary services, fertility assessments, and any other costs associated with the breeding program. The guardian home remains responsible for routine veterinary care and normal day-to-day expenses incurred while the dog resides with them.

For each breeding that results in a successful litter of at least three live puppies, the guardian home will receive compensation of $500. Compensation will be paid after the litter is born and the minimum litter requirement has been met.

The breeder may use the dog for a maximum of five successful litters during the term of this agreement. Full ownership of the dog will automatically transfer to the guardian home upon the earliest occurrence of any of the following:

  1. The dog has produced five successful litters meeting the agreement's requirements;

  2. The dog reaches five years of age; or

  3. The breeder voluntarily elects to retire the dog from the breeding program and relinquish all remaining breeding rights.

Upon transfer of ownership, all breeding rights held by the breeder shall terminate, and the guardian home shall become the sole legal owner of the dog with full ownership rights and responsibilities.

The purpose of this arrangement is to allow the dog to enjoy a permanent, loving family home while also contributing to the breeder's breeding program in a limited and responsible manner. Both parties agree to work cooperatively and communicate openly to ensure the dog's health, welfare, and quality of life remain the highest priority throughout the duration of the agreement.
